Shirataki - Your No-Carb Noodles for a Low-Carb Diet

Pasta has been an all-time favorite in many countries especially with the
introduction of different pasta recipes such as spaghetti, lasagna, macaroni, carbonara, fettuccini, and a lot
more. They are really great, no one could ever contest! However, their taste is also as rich as the
carbohydrate contained in the pasta used to cook these dishes. Though almost all people know how too much
carbohydrate could have an adverse effect on the body, nobody dared care until Dr. Atkins introduced the
low-carb diet. Surprisingly, a lot of people have become, and still more and more, are becoming downright
pasta-phobic. The problem of many people who have decided to follow Dr. Atkins was that, it was hard to
totally get rid of pasta from their meal. It was only in the recent years that people have been convinced;
nothing can really hinder them from going healthy and fit with low-carb diet because no-carb noodles are now
available in the market!
What are these no-carb noodles?
No-carb noodles, in the form of Shirataki noodles, were
introduced in the market in the early 2000s, but no one seemed to have noticed these noodles because people had not
yet fully absorbed the many health benefits of a low-carb diet. In the past, low-carb diet was only practiced and
observed by those with gluten-intolerance or wheat allergy. However, with the sudden popularity of Dr. Atkins, more
and more people have recognized how beneficial a low-carb diet is. This also gave rise to the popularity of
Shirataki no-carb noodles.
When Shirataki noodles were first introduced in the market, they were really classified and tagged as no-carb
noodles because these noodles do not conain any carbohydrate and calories. However, these no-carb noodles were
rubbery in texture and were not really pleasant to eat, even if pre-boiling or rinsing with warm water could lessen
the rubbery texture. This led to the introduction of a variant of Shirataki noodles called Tofu-based Shirataki
noodles. These are almost no-carb noodles because these noodles contain very low carbohydrate-content of 3 grams
and very low calorie-content of only 20 calories per 4-once serving. This variant of Shirataki no-carb noodles also
has 2 grams or fiber and 0.5 grams of fat, making it a really perfect substitute to the regular noodles.
Aside from the no and low carbohydrate and calorie content, Shirataki, both no-carb and low-carb, has other
differences from other noodles. First, they are packaged in water and second, they cook almost instantly. Aside
from that, their gelatinous texture can easily turn mushy when overcooked. Nevertheless, the texture is really nice
when boiled for a very short period of time.
So, if you are still in hesitation to try a low-carb diet because you fear you might not be able to totally
eliminate noodles and pasta from your meal, think it over because with Shirataki low-carb and no-carb noodles,
going on a low-carb diet is now as easy as A, B, and C!
